Is £168 too much to pay for a press release distribution?
I want to send out a press release of mine and have tried to contact newspapers, media etc to no avail. On the internet, I came across a press release writing and distribution company. Using their database of over 80'000 media contacts they charge £168 to distribute a press release.
Should I pay the £168? Your views please.
why should this agency get your message in front of more people who want to publish it?
what have you got that menas these outlets should bcarry your message / advertorial.
this agency may well send your message to 80,000 media contacts.. but
do you know how many of these are still active
do you know how many are relavant to your message?
do you know how these are borken down.. is it 80,000 fuly qualified contacts, or a mialing list with 80,000 names on
do you know how many of the contacs are for the same organaation
if you want to spend money get the agency to give you a sample of say… 100 contacts on the list.. or 50 customers of theires and ask those customers waht they thought.. did their press realease appear.
personly it sounds cheap £170 for 80,000 contacts
..actualy it sounds too cheap.. what are they doing for your

you can do a press release for free, you just fax, phone, email or whatever the information to the relevent papers newsdesks. They will only pick up on it if it's a story thats interesting and they think their readers will be interested. Thats all a press release is. If it is something that you think applies nationwide then you need to think about whether £168 is worth them contacting all those people for you. Just remember there is no garentee that anyone will want to run the story. If you have all ready contacted papers and they arn't interested perhaps it's a dead end.

I agree; you can do a press release for free, but it can be an ardous task. If you are not willing to put in all the work yourself - I understand - but know that anyone you pay for any service whatsoever should come with a recommendation.
See if there's anyone in your line of work - whether it be politics, entertainment or sports - that has used such a service and find out the benefits and cons of working with such a group.
A company that charges you for press releases should have a little more access to the publications' attention and should be able to guarantee you some print, which is hard to do. Just because you make a press release, it doesn't mean any newspaper, or other Media have to run the story. Good Luck!

It all depend on how much you will be getting for your information?
Will you be paid for your information? I think you will be! and if you are not! you should be paid for it, your information, so a little
168 Quid should be nothing to squel about!.
Pitty I do not know what the Press release is about ( smile). your
storeys AKA. the peace must be good why they charge you 168 quid. so you should do your negotiation and make some money
out of the deal MITE.>>>>.

Before paying this money I would want to see a contact list of precisely whom they have sent the press release to - it does seem a little high but if they are targeting all the relevant contacts you need, and you generate sales or interest, it may be worth the money. Perhaps you need to contact a reputable PR agency who will carry out this sort of work on your behalf on a contract basis - one offs rarely work and a more sustained campaign might yield better results for you.
