How do I write a Press Release?
What must I include? Is there a standard format?
Any advice?
Try and write it as much like a news article as you can.
Determine what the most important information is and include that in the first paragraph.
Be concise, don't waffle, keep to one side on an A4, and don't try to be too flowery with your prose. If you're too wordy it'll go straight in the bin.
Your ideal situation is that it'll end up in the paper as an article exactly as you've written it - this does sometimes happen particularly in local papers. So try to produce something that you feel they could use.
But most importantly you need to bear in mind that it's only going to be used if the editorial team feel that it's going to be of any interest to their readers.
