Can anyone write me a good press release as I have found it difficult to contact journalists about my story?
I want to publicise my website to the media and have tried to contact journalists and newspapers to no avail. I have even paid for agencies to write me a press release and have submitted on line and have tried to write my own.
Nothing works. I am stuck. Someone help me release my website to the media or a journalist!
Thanks
Three key questions you need to ask about your website:
1. Is it newsworthy? No journalist wants a sales pitch sent to them.
2. Is it a new idea/concept? If it is, you are the only one who can write about. What are YOU trying to achieve with the website.
3. Have you advertised/publicised the website yet? If not, then it's useless to pay for press releases. If the journalists can't find your website, they won't want to write about.
Remember that journalists are busy people, they deal with news 24/7. So if you are trying to do a sales pitch with them, they'll put it in the bin.
Eight good reasons for a press release:
Did you just launch a web site?
Did you introduce a new product?
Did you enter into a collaboration?
Did you develop a new technology?
Did your company win an award?
Did your company hire a new CEO?
Did your company expand its facilities?
Did your company reach a milestone?
If you can say yes to any of the above questions, you have a valid reason for a press release.
Here's a brief guideline for doing a press release:
The headline should be to the point - What you say here will decide whether the reader will read your press release. Try and include facts and benefits to the audience.
Make the subject and text matter, newsworthy - Answer who, what, where, why and how in the lead paragraph. Make a concise (250-350 words) and compelling case for yourself in a professional way. Prepare the release within the body of the message.
Offer supporting material - Quotes and testimonials from notable people wherever possible provide credibility and reassurance to the reader.
Clear contact instructions - Include your contact numbers, e-mail and web site addresses with a hyper link so that the reader can easily contact you.
Define the end of a press release - End the press release with ###, centered to your page. This clearly signifies the end of a press release.

It all depends what the web site is about, local papers won't be interested if it's just 'another' web site.
If the local paper won't run the story you ain't got a cat in hells chance anywhere else.
