Explained on Location in Front of the Rig by Geologist George, an independent contractor, who monitors the drilling process and the ore samples. He collects rock-chips size of the tip of an index finger. Chips look like grains of coffee that he stores in a little plastic tray that is taken back to the mine office where they are examined by a microscope to determine the ‘rock type’ discussed in the ‘Prelimanary Interim Report’ released Jun.3.
Bob eyewitnessed Geologist George collecting guartz chips during the drilling of hole #40. They fill sall gunny-sacks with about 3 shovel fulls of rock chips. The bag is labeled and transported back to the mine office. A small quantity or ore is removed, and sent to independent analsysis. At the mine office they pull a sample and it’s processed and run thru the spectrolysis machine and they KNOW what it is as far as gold per ton and silver per ton. (Always good to back check!)
Bob said, “Ray Charles could be standing next to the classifier at the drill and see it blowing quartz chips for sample after sample. That’s 4 pair’s of eyes there and JG is dropping in all the time and they process it at the office so it’s easy to imagine how they patiently wait till the news is official. All the Lodes in the Comstock were by following the quartz veins and this led them to the quartz flooding mentioned in a report.

Virgina City and Goldhill is worth a visit just for the history - recommend on a 3-day weekend that could start with an evening in Reno, NV, 45 miles, 1-1/4 hours to the northwest, but you will want to stop for expansive views of the Carson Valley high above at the top of Geiger Grade and then look westward to the huge wall of blue hued Sierra Mountains, the foundation for Lake Tahoe beyond, one of the most beautiful places in the USA, another 3-day weekend resort worth numerous return trips, approx 2 hours west of the Comstock, by two different routes.
