Is the media in America going too far?

Being an actor/actress/or just a famous person seems to be a pretty hard life. Paparazzi's and reporters follow wherever you go and it sure gets annoying. I get annoyed just looking at it, pictures taken at a distance of movie stars or singers and they write all about the gossip. Is America actually enjoying this? I'm sure star's love publicity but not to the point that people interrup. People can go mad and crazy for example: Britney Spears who is going way over bizarre as more and more reporters and media follows her around. If they had stopped caring about her, than maybe she could have a healthy recovery instead of basking in camera flashes as she tries to avoid reporters wherever she goes. What do you think? Is the media going to far or should this media keep on doing what they have been doing for the past few years? Because certainly, I am getting fed up seeing all these news online and in magazines because I feel that the celebrities privacy is totally being invaded.

I think there is a huge difference between 'the media' and the paparazzi, which is whom you seem to have a problem with. Most of us in the media business want to push ourselves as far away from the paparazzi as possible, because there's a big difference from what we do to what they do.

The paparazzi is kind of like bad journalism, because it focuses on poor information gathering techniques, badgering interviewees, uses unnamed sources for almost every article, and sometimes it's even hard to differentiate between what's real and what's made up. The media (actual reporters) do things much differently. Their focus is on accurate information that serves the public good.

Just thought I'd point that out first, that there's a big difference between media and tabloids.

To actually answer your question, I do feel that sometimes tabloid writers go too far. When celebs retreat to the privacy of their homes, that should be a sign for everyone else to bugger off. Instead, the paparazzi violates celeb's privacy just to get a picture or a story that doesn't mean jack. Most of the people in the actual media biz are ashamed of the crap that's going on… we're just as tired about hearing about where Brittney went to party this weekend as you are.

Which brings me to my final point: if you don't like it, don't buy it. One of the other answerers even said that she thinks that tabloids are dumb but buys them anyways. In reality, the public has the ability to control what the media covers. Because the public demanded to know every single thing there was to know, good reportes had to waste their time covering that instead of covering something important like the Iraq war. If you don't like what you're reading, don't buy it. Then we won't cover it anymore.

Hope that helped. Please remember that there's a difference between tabloids and the media, and also that you have the power to change what we cover.

The only time we can be sure of our privacy is within the walls of our home with the shades pulled.

    News isn't news any more.

They have changed news into entertainment.

It goes on 24/7 and has become entertainment.

Lets go back to 1/2 hour nightly news and have it really mean something.

They have to dig deep and repeat the same news all day long.

What has happened to TV in general?

Poor new reporting and poor programing.

    Repulsive commercials.

We all need to find another pastime.

    We are in a rut.

Sad Sad Sad, to say the least.

Thanks for the chance to spout off.

Yes their privacy is being invaded, but I'm still guilty because I love to read those magazines.

The Media has always gone too far, relating to celebrities, and the invasion of their privacy. Also, do you wonder if if all the tripe they write is true or just hype to tickle the feathers of people who won't go and study or read something serious.

On the other hand: The Media, is the biggest cover-up artist, for the Government, and what they (The Government) are doing behind the scenes.

To make matters worse, you now have the Australian Rupert Murdoch with the NYT in his ownership, along with all the rest.
