The bill …
The bill essentially allows the Feds to spy on our domestic communications (IMs, emails, internet and phone communications, with no effective recourse if they’re actually caught doing it. The passage of the bill also effectively mooted over 40 pending Federal lawsuits that were challenging the Federal Gov’t & the telecoms for 4th Amendment violations (Constitutional torts). An analogy is they were all caught illegally “stealing” (our information) & they just changed the law to make theft legal.

FYI: The House easily passed HR 6304, the “FISA Amendments” bill on Friday 6/20/08. They didn’t provide the usual seven days after reading the bill on the House floor last Thursday — rushing it to a vote the very next day in an obvious tactical strategy to allow them to avert public comment (which would be outrage). The telecoms were given immunity (AT&T, Verizon, etc) for consenting to warrantless wiretappng by the Bush Administration and the FISA rules were turned into swiss cheese.
